Guidelines for Grant Applicants

Individuals and families

We consider applications from vulnerable individuals and families in crisis and with limited incomes. The majority of these grants will be as a result of referrals from the social or health services. Most applicants are visited prior to their grant being considered.

We can occasionally assist students and apprentices living in Walthamstow or Chingford and where there is limited family income, with a grant for books, equipment or tools.

Applications for grants to individuals are considered at monthly meetings of the Grants and Accommodation Committee. Applications are made on a form available Here

The Monoux Foundation (see Links) is a local charity which provides a small number of grants each year to students from selected schools in Waltham Forest.

The Walthamstow and Chingford Almshouse Charitysupports organisations carrying out a wide range of activities to benefit local people. Organisations will need to demonstrate that their work prevents or relieves financial need within the area of benefit which is Walthamstow and Chingford.

We place particular priority on projects that help people to help themselves, for example those that help vulnerable beneficiaries into work, projects that promote independent living or prevent and alleviate isolation and projects aiming to improve the situation of those with a poor quality of life. We award the majority of grants to organisations at the December Trustee Company meeting, with the deadline for applications in November, however applications will be considered at other times of the year. New organisations being considered for a grant are usually visited before any decision is made.

As our charity’s name implies, we focus on Walthamstow and Chingford, so activities and projects must be of benefit to residents from these areas.

We will not consider:

How do we choose which projects to make grants to?

We will look at various factors such as:

Size of Grant

Grants are generally awarded up to £10,000, however applications for grants in excess of this will be considered. Applications form and guidelines Here
