Monoux Almshouses

The Walthamstow and Chingford Almshouse Charity dates back to the 16th Century with the founding of the George Monoux Almshouses in 1527.  The charity operates for the benefit of people living in Walthamstow and Chingford in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, and provides sheltered housing for older people, and grants for the relief of need.

Accommodation

The Walthamstow and Chingford Almshouse Charity's main area of work is providing modern sheltered housing for older people in four almshouse buildings. Three of these are in Walthamstow and one is in Chingford.

Grant making

The Walthamstow and Chingford Almshouse Charity's objective for grant making is the prevention or relief of financial need.

The Charity makes grants to individuals or families in crisis to relieve hardship, and to other charities and organisations which work for the benefit of people living in Walthamstow and Chingford.

Allotments

The Charity manages four sites which provide allotments for local people.
